      The Toolmaker A CNC Operator works under the direction of a supervisor or group leader with a minimum of supervision.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Responsibilities include the planning, construction, altering and repairing of a wide variety of highly complex jigs, fixtures, tools, gages and dies.
    • Perform development work and difficult, close tolerance toolroom operations. Perform skilled bench operations and grind, hone, fit and assemble tools and dies to assure proper operations and clearances for moving parts.
    • Determine metal flow in dies, make tool tryouts, diagnose and correct trouble.
    • Set up and moniter heat treat operations to properly harden, anneal or stress relieve as required.
    • Analyze problems arising from use of tools, dies, jigs  and fixtures and be able to make suitable recommendations so as to improve the same and eliminate recurring problems. Assist and technically direct assigned employees as part of a task team and assure their work conforms to specifications.
    • Work from tool designs, blueprints, skecthes, tool orders, company and customer specifications, written or from verbal instructions, etc.
    • Plan, layout, set up and perform varied and unusual operations on cnc equipment. Perform complicated setups for detail parts, assemblies and tooling.  Must be able to work from a variety of data sources so as to be able to produce machine/detail parts and or tools to specifictions.
    • Report defective material or any unusual condition or circumstance to supervisor. Maintain records and other information as instructed.  Follow all safety regulations.
    • Actively supports and complies with the company’s continuous performance improvement initiatives.


    Education:  Requires the use of advanced trades mathematics, together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, handbook formulas; all varieties of precision measuring instruments, nc/cnc equipment, multi-machine work stations, personal computer and specific software application programs of a technical nature involving a thorough technical skills knowledge plus the application of basic theory. Equivalent to complete, accredited, apprenticeship in a recognized trade, craft, or occupation.


    Experience:  Over 3 years up to and including 5 years
