    Kaman Air Vehicles has a need for an Assembler to join the team in our helicopter blade shop located in Bloomfield, CT. At Kaman Air Vehicles, the Assembler works from blue prints, routing sheets, and process specifications to assist in the manufacturing of new helicopter blades. 

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Perform pre fit, bonding and assembling of various size and shape components using hardware and adhesives.
    • Place components in fixture to maintain alignment, padded with fiberglass cloth, enclosed in a vacuum bag and sealed for autoclave and curing.
    • Make recommendations to project engineering department regarding modification of assembly processes. Construct complicated assemblies as required.
    • Remain flexible and willing to work in various work cells depending on company need. Support company initiatives including ensuring continuous improvement of policies, procedures and product.
    • Assist in moving fixtures as necessary or required.
    • Report defective material or any other unusual circumstance or condition to supervision.
    • Set-up and operate vertical, horizontal band saws.
    • Lay-out, nest core patterns from templates on sheets of core.
    • Apply a temporary tape or prepreg skin to the core.
    • Perform 5 axis routing operations according to Kaman guidlines.


    • Proficient with the use of hand and power cutting and trimming tools, knives, scissors, rivet gun, grinders, measuring instruments, etc.
    • Experience with Fiberglass, and the use of hand sanding tools. 
    • Requires experience with the use of calipers, measurement scales.
    • Basic math and problem solving skills required.
    • Ability to read bluprints and schematics, and understand formulas, specifications, and charts. 
    • Knowledgeable with oven and press operations and experience with fiberglass and prepreg lay-up operations
    • Knowledge and experience with hand tool operations related to composite, metal and wood blade manufacturing preferred.
    • 1-3 years experience.
    • Must accomplish ‘Operators Acceptance Program’ certification within 6 months of hire.
