Overview

 

 

Works under the direction of the Director of Quality with minimum supervision.  Is responsible to plan, develop, and direct quality assurance policies, programs and initiatives. Establish, oversee and lead the Quality Assurance/ Product Integrity departments to ensure that products are developed, manufactured, maintained and shipped according to customer specifications and consistent with the quality standards of Kaman Aerospace. In addition, this individual will be responsible for the development and implementation of strategic planning and improvement initiatives for the quality and reliability of our products and the management of internal and external relationships while ensuring compliance with the Quality Management System. This role will be a single point of accountability for Quality for the Kaman Jacksonville facility. Provides daily leadership and direction to Quality team through coaching and development. May direct Quality department in absence of supervisor. Leads Quality team and works with cross functional team to achieve Quality and Company’s priorities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure total product integrity by providing strategic leadership in establishing a common quality vision, culture, structure, management systems and processes.
  • Develop, implement and monitor all key quality metrics, systems, and procedures.
  • Analyzes cost and schedule performance reports to assure their validity, identify trends, determine problems, estimate completion positions and provide information to top management as required
  • Promotes and leads a RCCA culture.
  • Drives the reduction of COPQ across the business.
  • Lead the Continual Process Improvement program and reinforce a culture that supports it throughout the business.
  • Participates with operations management in program reviews, identifying major program problems, status of corrective actions, expected recovery dates, and recommendations for improved contractual performance.
  • Single point of accountability for the continuous improvement of quality, measured through standard KPIs, throughout the business.
  • Manage quality audits to ensure compliance to customer requirements and pro-actively support engineering and manufacturing to meet or exceed requirements.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication among all functional departments to facilitate problem identification. Identifies basic problems in the program and assures a plan is developed in coordination with the functional departments, for solving the problems.  Monitors execution of the plan. 
  • Work with both suppliers and customers to ensure the highest level of quality throughout the value stream.
  • Team with the Supply Chain organization to develop and implement a supplier qualification process and ensure the quality of downstream parts delivery.
  • Negotiate with all current and proposed customers to establish contractual quality requirements and quality statement of work.
  • Manage the quality organization's budget in support of the company's goals and objectives.
  • Develop and implement a company culture of personal accountability. Deployment of Lean/6 sigma manufacturing, employee effectiveness and improved facility utilization strategies to achieve the overall business objectives associated with safety, quality, delivery, cost, and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years experience; or equivalent combination such as certification as CQE or an Associates Degree and 10-14 years related experience.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100/ISO 9001.
  • Minimum of two (3) years of work experience in a FAA /EASA 14 CFR Part 145 Repair Station
  • Ability to read complex blueprints, technical charts and specification sheets.
  • Familiarity with 3MBD designs and interpretation of model-based engineering
  • Effective oral/written communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team/collaborative environment.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Certified Six Sigma or Lean Sigma Master Black Belt or Black Belt
  • Solid understanding of the Federal Aviation Regulations, Airworthiness Directives, methods, techniques, and practices contained in the applicable manufacturers' maintenance and alteration documents, and other data acceptable to, or approved by, the FAA
  • Working familiarity with common Quality methodologies such as APQP, PPAP, PSW, MSA, SPC, Six Sigma and Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action
