We have an exciting opportunity for a strategic and motivated Senior Production Manager of Repair & MRO to join our team at Kaman Air Vehicles. Under the administrative direction of the General Manager, the individual in this leadership role will be responsible and accountable for planning, directing, coordinating production personal and all shop floor activities to meet or exceed business strategic delivery and cost goals. They will also be responsible for maintaining the highest level of quality products, and safety of people.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides overall leadership and development of production personal. Monitors and leads team activities that ensure achievement of schedule, safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets. Development of corrective actions and claw back plans as required. Develop/enhance training matrix and develop a cross trained personal who can flex and work in multiple areas. Ensures job fit for employees and implements corrective actions when needed.
  • Act as the General Manager for the FAA Repair Station, interfacing with FAA representatives, and staying current on FAA regulations.
  • Creates a work environment that attracts, retains and develops talent. Manages talent to close production gaps / individual skill gaps. Maintain sufficient, adequately trained staff and address personnel situations, develop risk reduction for any single point failures in a timely manner consistent with company policy and federal/state law.  Coordinate mechanic/repairman applications in compliance with FAA Repair Station guidelines.
  • Develop department metrics, preform metric tracking, problem solving and continuous improvement activities as well as provide required charts, action plans into internal and customer program reviews.
  • Develop and implement long-term production operation plans which support business strategies to drive production department initiatives. Anticipates possible changes/ risks in production and develops and implements plans for flexibility.
  • Partner with Program management, and Sr. Materials Manager to understand and define program requirements to ensure that production meets customer expectations and to ensure that division financial targets are achieved or exceeded.
  • Develop and Manage department budget, quality, and schedule requirements. Plan, schedule, assign work and resources within these areas. Work closely with Production Planning, Material Control, Purchasing, Quality and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure all needs are communicated and coordinated to support established schedules.
  • Partner with IE to continually review manpower, needs by value stream and adjust as required.
  • Provide input during development of Production schedules and associated costs. Monitor and maintain production schedules, cost and quality for all areas of responsibility. Assess need for corrective action on an on-going basis; inform management of schedule slippages, cost overruns or other problem areas in a timely manner to prevent crisis situations.
  • Diagnose Cost, Quality and Schedule problems within all areas of responsibility. Formulate and implement successful corrective action plans.
  • Adopt, suggest, and implement continuous improvement methodologies and techniques to improve productivity, improve throughput, and reduce costs.
  • Interface effectively with all levels of Kaman Air Vehicles personnel and the applicable customer/s and the FAA, as required.

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing and information systems functions; working knowledge of MRP II based manufacturing control systems.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a similar field.
  • 7 - 10 years experience in manufacturing related discipline, with a minimum of 5 years experience in supervision.
