Overview

Reporting to the Director of Operations, this individual is responsible for overall management of the supply base supporting critical commodities and categories, with an emphasis on build-to-print aerospace components including, but not limited to machined components and mechanical assemblies. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Will lead the supply base, supporting strategic sourcing and critical commodities and categories, with an emphasis on build-to-print aerospace components including, but not limited to raw material (metal and non-metal), machined components, fabricated parts, mechanical and electromechanical assemblies, special processes, and others.
  • Leverage demand forecasts and upcoming design releases to ensure the supply base has ample manufacturing capacity and quality yield to enable production plan.
  • Provide guidance to internal procurement staff and engineering customers on design for manufacturability, supply chain optimization, and cost reduction strategies for mechanical commodities, including machined components, mechanical components, sheet metal, forgings, castings, and hardware, etc.
  • Collaborate with internal Proposals/Cost Estimating on design reviews, scorecard/roadmaps, schedule, and supplier quality requirements.
  • Conduct comprehensive supplier analysis to inform ‘Make vs. Buy’ decisions, down select an optimal sourcing plan considering NPI requirements, production rates, technology, price trend, market and industry position, and risk assessments.
  • Audit supplier’s facilities and accurately assess technical capability, equipment, and capacity for first article development and long-term production in accordance with company needs.
  • Monitor and manage costs to ensure adherence to program-specific budgets, forecasts and maintain cost of Bill of Materials. Ability to develop should-cost models for competitive cost analysis. Deliver best in class TCO (Total Cost Ownership).
  • Install and optimize supply base manufacturing capacity to assure COS (Continuity of Supply).
  • Drive continuous process improvement to enhance efficiency and implement cost-saving programs with suppliers including but not limited to value added cost reduction and cost our value engineering.
  • Actively manage supplier performance and drive quarterly business reviews with top spend suppliers to further drive collaboration and accountability to delivering results.
  • Further expand localization in Better Cost Countries (BCC) to enable further cost reduction and drive supply chain risk mitigation.
  • Develop and implement a process to properly assess supply chain risk and enable mitigation action to reduce this risk while reporting out to executive leadership and coordinating actions for risk reduction.
  • Administer moderate to large contracts and independently negotiate with supplier’s contract terminology, pricing, technical requirements, scope, and terms involving responsibility, liability, indemnification, intellectual property, and export compliance.
  • Prepare, issue, and analyze RFQ packages for one-time and ongoing project requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and government regulations.
  • Create a platform that enables supplier collaboration including coordinating annual supplier conference.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 5+ years in a commodity management or related role.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a manufacturing supply chain setting.
  • 3+ years’ experience with legacy MRP systems required.
  • Experience in supplier relationship development and negotiating large contracts with internal and external customers, peers, and vendors.
  • An advocate to the supplier base with the ability to stablish strategic relationships with key suppliers.
  • Track record of delivering results and effectively manage multiple priorities, projects, and resources.
  • Comfortable building high performing, interdepartmental relationships through leading by example and modeling high standards of ethical behavior.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team capacity.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills and can work with minimal supervision.
  • Acts with integrity and can maintain confidential information.
  • Up to 30% travel required on company business, with international travel required.
